Medical Biller/Coder/Office Specialist

This program prepares graduates to work as entry-level Medical Billing/Coder/Office Specialist. When a health care professional treats a patient, a record is made describing observations and medical treatment. The Medical Billing/Coding Specialist assigns a code to each diagnosis and procedure. Various software programs are used to prepare and process medical insurance claims.

Students enrolled in this program will learn comprehensive medical coding and billing procedures. They will demonstrate an understanding of current medical software and trends in the insurance industry. They will code and prepare insurance claims and analyze benefits.

Upon completion of the program, the student will be prepared to enter the health care career field through entry-level positions such as a Medical Biller, Medical Billing Specialist, Medical Insurance Specialist, Medical Coder, Medical Records Clerk, Hospital Admitting Clerk, and/or a Medical Administrative Assistant in a medical/health care or medical billing office.

Externships
All medical programs include an externship at an approved site upon completion of the required coursework. The externship provides the student with an actual work environment in which to apply skills learned in the classroom.
